YEAR 4

Dear Parents,

The weekly STEM sessions are fun times for everyone as the students explore different ways to work together to create models e.g. the tallest tower, a platform. The students loved building their items and had a whole host of ideas to share.

They have discussed and noted the Positive, Minus and the Interesting things about these sessions. The usual response has been that they really like to work together as a group. These are fun and challenging times with everyone giving these activities a go.

STEM is an educational approach that teaches students about the four subjects, i.e. science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Year 4’s are the first to try this and hopefully more upper primary classes will join in.

The above listed activities are all designed to engage students in the engineering designing process, to communicate effectively in their teams and to use their collaboration, creative and critical thinking skills.

During this term, the students had the opportunity to do a virtual workshop on “No Bullying.” These were engaged in using their virtual reality devices to watch a story on bullying. They discussed the story and the characters involved and could easily observe the bully and victim in action and were able to solve problems relating to both.

Being dressed in their Harmony Day colours and costumes, and their casual day clothing to raise funds for the Year 6’s T-shirts. has added to an interesting and fun time term for all.

Thank you,

Mrs. Moran
